Visiting Homer

Welcome to Homer, Alaska!
Located on Kachemak Bay at the 'end of the road' 200 miles south of Anchorage on the tip of the Kenai Peninsula, Homer is known as the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World.  You know you've arrived in Homer when you pull off into the Baycrest Overlook to take in the breathtaking panoramic view of Kachemak Bay, the Homer Spit, volcanos in the distance and beyond.

There's something fun to do every season.  Bird enthusiasts flock to Homer the first weekend in May for Shorebird Festival and Homer is known as the City of Peonies during July and August as the hillsides come alive with colorful fireweed.  You'll enjoy our museums and art galleries, shopping, culinary dining opportunities, cultural events like the Kachemak Highland Games and Homer Burning Basket, and miles of trails for exploring year-round on foot or via cross-country skis.  Of course, the Homer Spit is headquarters for your next fishing and flight-seeing adventure with terrific shops and restaurants that are generally open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Whether you visit once or move here to stay, Homer is the reason people come to Alaska!
