Public Computers

We have computers available for public use! All the following are available:

  • Public workstations with internet access, basic office software and some graphics-editing tools
  • Laptops for checkout
  • Bring your own device and connect to the free wi-fi

Logging onto the public workstations requires either a library card or a guest pass, available at the front desk. The public workstations are time-limited.

Printing is offered in black and white (25 cents/page) and color (60 cents/page), but can only be done from the public workstations.

More things to know:

  • Users of our public computers must conform to our Internet Use Policy (see below).
  • Parents are responsible for supervision of their children's Internet sessions.
The Alaska Internet Circle of Safety is a resource for adults who would like to teach their children to be responsible online citizens.

Wireless

The Homer Public Library offers wireless access building-wide and outside in our parking lot.  Access is free and the outdoor connection is available 24/7.  When prompted for a user name and password, simply provide one of your choosing.  Users of our wireless access must conform to our Internet Use Policy (see below).

We encourage users to take precautions when using any public hotspot, as wireless access is accessible and open to anyone in the library. This means your transmissions may not be secure. Virus and security protection is the responsibility of the user.

Most wireless-enabled laptops come automatically configured to pick up the wireless signal and you won't need to change any settings. Look for the 'Homer Library' signal if your computer isn't sure which one to pick.

You are responsible for configuring, establishing, and maintaining your connection to our network. Due to liability concerns, staff are not able to provide assistance. Homer Public Library is not responsible for any changes you make to your computer, nor can we guarantee your hardware is compatible with our free network connection.

Printers are not available via WiFi.

For more information regarding computer use at Homer Public Library, refer to the resources on the Library Policies page.
